The ninth annual Eastern Eye Business Awards 2005 were held on 7 April in London (UK). At the event, six awards were presented, honouring the contribution and achievements of Asian entrepreneurs in Britain who have developed multi-million pound businesses. The recipient of this year’s DTI Innovation Award was Kartar Lalvani (pictured), who founded Vitabiotics, Britain’s first specialist vitamin supplement company. Immunace, discovered by Lalvani, is a combined formula of antioxidants, nutrients and cofactors and has shown to benefit the immune system, building up resistance to infection. Immunace, therefore, shows promise for use in the global fight against HIV/AIDS.

Eastern Eye has also published Success, the annual wealth index that identifies the top 200 wealthiest Asians in the UK and abroad. Vijay and Bhikhu Patel, who own pharmaceutical company Waymade Healthcare, are listed at number two.
